3 new Ink drawings

Check out my Ink Illustrations page for more

In my studio tonight

Latest offerings

Last Monday I, as we say in Ireland, took a figary and did a load of drawing & experimenting. But as it some times goes, I didn't like 90% of it. Here however are the two that I did like enough to post.

This one above was done because I had enjoyed doing the latest Blind Elephant illustration Vintage, taking influences from the 1980s illustration book that my mother gave me.

A good few months ago, actually 2011 to be exact, I had gotten back into experimenting with inks, so I decided to revisit the Models Ink series that I had done.

Just getting back to the word figary according to a post on www.qi.com it means a frolic, whim, vagary or notion.

The Cake Tin Dublin

I have been lucky over the years in that I have been privy to these fab cakes on various occasions, now Susan has finally decided to show the world what she is made of or more like what her cakes are made of (sorry I couldn't help it).

A long time friend, having known her since she was being taught to escape from the garden by my sister at the age of 4, but what I didn't know was just how talented she was, then she started showing off her baking skills.

Check out The Cake Tin and you will see what I mean when I say that this lady makes a mean cake.

Aprils Blind Elephant blog submissions

Blind Elephant Illustration Collective Eggsibition

The Blind Elephants, of which I am one, are having a show in The Bernard Shaw Pub, in Dublin.
This was the location of our very first show and we are always welcomed warmly there. The pub is not your average run of the mill establishment, its a promoter of the arts and has seriously cool and varied events on.

This show will feature works done specifically for the egg themed exhibition and a selection of each of the elephants own favourite blog posts. Its going to be a lot of fun and I for one am, as always, really excited to see each of the Elephants take on the theme.

Last week in my studio

Just some stuff that I have stuck up on the wall in the studio. From top to bottom,

  • a sticker form packet of extremely random stickers I got in an Austrian supermarket
  • a cub scouts badge for hobbies which fell off my boyfriends scout jumper from when he was a kid
  • the writing I took out of the Times magazine last year because I liked the style and the message
  • and the cardboard square (which is actually much more burgundy in real life) is the business card form my friend Jane Fogarty's degree show which by the way was amazing hence keeping the card.

Inspired by style

This weeks quest for inspiration once again found its way to fashion.

Novice Graffiti Artist debut piece

A while back I planned the world smallest Graffiti Jam session, which was basically myself & my cousin in my back garden with 8 x 4 mdf boards (graffiti jam sounds much cooler).

Anyway on a sunny Saturday before the Easter bunny came, we set about having fun with spray cans.

My talented photographer sister Sarah Tobin, came along to take some photos of the work in progress and here it is.

Although I have messed about with spray cans in the past, I gotta say doing a piece makes me appreciate even more, the work of street artists, its not easy but seriously addictive!

Here is the finished piece.

Today in my studio

My boyfriend had put a few of his badges down beside the markers and I thought that the colours all looked really nice, so I took a photo of it. Plus I really love stripes.

This has been on my list of things to do since the new year, I have wanted to mess about with lettering for ages and I can finally tick it off my list. Hopefully this little foray will give me a taste for doing more.

My March blog post on The Blind Elephant Illustration Collective Blog

For this months word, which is Scarlet, I opted to look at the idea of Scarlet being a person, and to take the word further a 'scarlet woman' .

Novice Graffiti Artist at the ready

Being a fan of street art and doing projects with young people based around street art & graffiti, I have gotten a taste for it and have decided to give it a proper go myself.

So myself & cousin (fellow arty type & godson) are having a bit of a graffiti jam of our own next week.

I'm really looking forward to giving this medium a go and hope it turns out (at least well enough to post on the Blog). Either way my sister (fellow arty type & photographer) will be taking photos of the session and I know they will definitely be post worthy.

Here is the design that I hope to create.
